Job Shadowing provides an opportunity students to spend time with a mentor at a worksite to observe a person in a career that the student may be considering.
Objectives:
- To help students clarify their career objectives and assist them in the selection of a career major.
- Exposure to the workplace in occupational areas.
- Increase career awareness.
- Help students model desired behavior through example.
- Reinforce linkage between classroom learning and work requirements.

Cosmetology
PCTI Senior Cosmetology Students participate in a yearly Open House. Employers from the beauty industry are invited to watch our students color, create hair styles, and perform manicures and facials on our clients. Many of our students are offered job opportunities from this successful event.
Groundhog Shadowing
PCTI’s Engineering Technology Program shadowed a collaborative construction effort of the Preakness Hospital. Students were afforded the opportunity to participate in the construction management process from plans to completion.
Hanger Clinic
The School of Business Careers students shadow local businesses with innovative business concepts. The Hanger Clinic illustrated how it implemented a Green Concept of recycling hangers.
New Jersey Transit
Students from the Schools of Applied Technology and Automotive Technology and the Academy of Criminal Justice shadowed the NJ transit Academy for insight on available career paths within the organization.
Project Lead the Way
PCTI’s Engineering program shadowed various County construction work-sites. With the direction of the County Engineering Department, students shadowed the replacement of two local bridge replacement progects.
