PCTVS Holds Touching Pearl Harbor Assembly

On December 6th, Passaic County Technical-Vocational Schools (PCTVS) held a very special assembly in honor of the 78th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Over 900 students, staff and numerous local veterans filled the PCTVS auditorium to capacity for this moving annual remembrance ceremony. Special guest Jerry Manning, the president of the local chapter of “Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge”, was also in attendance in recognition of the 75th anniversary of this battle.

Students participated in this impactful ceremony, as members of Boys and Girls State facilitated the day’s events and engaged with honored veterans. The PCTVS Vocal Ensemble sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and the Dance Ensemble performed a beautiful routine to “I’ll Be Seeing You.” Additionally, a student-created video recalled the events of Pearl Harbor and shared students’ thoughts on why it is important to remember our country’s history. This meaningful video showed moving images of that fateful day and showcased various memorials of Pearl Harbor.

The ceremony began as the NJROTC cadets marched in for the “Presentation of Colors”. Later on in the program, the cadets demonstrated a poignant Flag Passing Ceremony with precision and discipline after PCTI Band Members played the well-known “Taps”. The program concluded as a commemorative wreath was presented and placed in the Veterans’ Park on campus to celebrate, honor and remember the events of Pearl Harbor.

“The Pearl Harbor ceremony illuminates the unwavering spirit of the American people as we remember that tragic and infamous day in 1941,” said Diana C. Lobosco, Chief School Administrator of PCTVS. “At PCTVS, we believe it is paramount to uphold the tradition of remembrance and respect to honor survivors and veterans.”

PCTVS continues to maintain its dedication to hosting annual patriotic events throughout the year to maintain a meaningful relationship between veterans and the school community, while emphasizing the importance of community and reinforcing the tenets of remembrance and patriotism.
