Engineering students of Passaic County Technical Institute developed an award winning and innovative idea when they participated in the Nokia Global STEM Innovation Challenge. Their concept, “a phone dock that converts a Nokia smart phone into a traditional desktop computer,” allowed users to be productive at work, school, or home,” and garnered the PCTI team’s first place accolades!
PCTI students competed against four other teams for the winning title, including JA Finland, JA Israel, Junior Achievement of Chicago, and JA Spain. Each team was required to submit a concept paper and presentation. The key criteria for evaluating teams were based on innovation and the future, in addition to how well each team captured the idea, studied and researched, thought about the business case, and defined real-world use cases.
For their win, PCTI students were recipients of certificates and Amazon gift cards.
The Nokia Global STEM Innovation Challenge was a collaboration between JA STEM Innovation Camps and Nokia and encouraged high school students to develop their idea-generation and collaboration techniques to arrive at viable solutions to real-world problems.
