Wayne, NJ – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Passaic County Technical Institute’s (PCTI) Culinary Arts students Cristine Guzman, Ashley Moran, Riya Rana, and Carolan Terrero recently competed in the NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge, which encourages participants to design meals for astronauts to enjoy while aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This year’s contest challenged students to create a delectable dessert that met the standards provided by NASA HUNCH officials and the Johnson Food Lab Scientists. After much practice and diligence, PCTI students created the delicious Lavender, Lime, and Honey Panna Cotta which earned them a spot in the final round of the national competition!
As one of the top ten schools in the nation, students have to opportunity to travel to compete in Houston, Texas on April 20th. Last year at the same event, PCTI’s Culinary team took home the gold with their Red Pepper Puree Risotto. The winning entrée was recently launched into space and astronauts of the ISS were so impressed with the quality of the food, that they called PCTI’s past winners to congratulate them on a job well done.
