- Buenos dias PCTI. Hoy es jueves, 26 de septiembre. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month today we highlight the accomplishments of Isabel Allende, a Chilean-American author renowned for her novels that blend magical realism with historical and political themes, often focusing on the lives of women. Her debut novel, *The House of the Spirits* (1982), is a family saga that spans several generations, set against the backdrop of Chilean political turmoil. The novel established her as a leading voice in Latin American literature. Allende’s works, including *Eva Luna* and *Daughter of Fortune*, explore themes like love, loss, exile, and the resilience of the human spirit. Many of her stories reflect her personal experiences with exile, as her family fled Chile following the 1973 military coup. Allende is celebrated for her vivid storytelling, strong female characters, and her exploration of social justice and human rights.

- Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Let's celebrate the linguistic ingenuity of the Maya. The Mayan writing system was a complex system that used glyphs to represent words and syllables. The Maya could combine these glyphs in various ways to create a wide range of expressions. While many glyphs represented entire words, others represented syllables, allowing for a more phonetic approach. This flexibility led to multiple possible spellings for many words. The Maya writing system influenced the Aztecs, who further developed it. Despite Spanish attempts to suppress it, the Maya continued to use their language and writing secretly for centuries.

In honor or Hispanic Heritage Month, today we highlight Frida Kahlo, a mexican painter known for her striking self-portraits and vivid depictions of pain, identity, and the female experience. She drew heavily from Mexican folk art, indigenous culture, and personal trauma, including her lifelong battle with health issues following a bus accident. Her work, often surreal and deeply introspective, explores themes of physical suffering, emotional turmoil, and love.
