Congratulations to football stars Yasir Thomas and Kevin Copper for assisting in powering the Bulldogs to a North 1 Group 5 NJSIAA State Sectional Championship at MetLife Stadium and for being selected as November’s Athletes of the Month!
Yasir Thomas is a three-year varsity starter who:
As a versatile all around- player, he made key contributions in all three facets of the game: offensive, defensive and special teams. On offense Yasir was a “jack of all trades”, taking snaps at Wide Receiver, Running Back, and Quarterback. His noteworthy offensive statistics came from playing the Wide Receiver position where he amassed 19 receptions for 478 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season. Those at MetLife Stadium will never forget his amazing 60 yard touchdown reception that was featured as USA Today’s catch of the weekend. On defense, Yasir continued his reign as a lockdown cornerback with 2 interceptions, 14 defended pass break-ups, 57 tackles, and 26 assisted tackles. On special teams, Yasir had 23 punt returns for 365 yards, 2 of those returns went for touchdowns. Yasir was selected as First Team All-Liberty in the Big North Conference, First Team All-County, and Second Team All-State at the Wide Receiver position. He has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at Lafayette College.
Kevin Copper is a three-year varsity starter who:
Made key contributions on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. He moved offensive positions, from Wide Receiver (2014) to Running Back, in order to overcome a deficit from a teammate’s preseason injury. Immediately he became the team’s “featured” back in the backfield. Kevin quickly acclimated to his new role, rushing on the season with 148 attempts and racking up 1068 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had 3 receptions for 21 yards from the backfield position. On defense, Kevin continued his reign as a lockdown cornerback with 3 tackles for a loss, 5 defended pass break-ups, 56 tackles, and 27 assisted tackles. He was selected as First Team All-Liberty in the Big North Conference and First Team All County at the running back position.
