As of the 2020-2021 school year, a mandatory 15 hours of community service are expected to have been completed prior to applying to the Passaic County Technical Vocational Schools NHS. Active community service participation is expected to be maintained throughout their membership along with the 15 hours of community service yearly. Students are expected to participate in the NHS yearly service project in addition to their 15 hours of community service.
- Service: Service is generally considered to be those actions undertaken by the student, which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service. In considering service, the contributions this candidate has made to the school, their classmates, and the community will be reviewed. Students are expected to enter the PCTVS National Society with at least 10 hours of community service. Yet, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year (September 1, 2020) students that seek membership for NHS must have at least 15 hours of community service.
- Leadership: Leadership will be considered in terms of the offices a student has held in school or community organizations, as well as effective participation in any co-curricular activities offered at Passaic County Technical Institute.
- Character: Character is probably the most difficult to define. Our chapter selection process will seek a candidate of character that demonstrates the following six qualities: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Scholarship: Our PCTVS chapter selection process will seek candidates of scholarship that demonstrate the academic vigor to have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher for consideration.
Upon criteria completion the Faculty Council will make final determinations and notify candidates of their acceptance into the National Honor Society. A written notification to the candidate and their parents will include an invitation to the annual induction ceremony.
PCTI National Honor Society members are the leaders of our school.
