Student Transportation Information

Student Transportation Entitlement under N.J.S.A. 18A:39-1

Under N.J.S.A. 18A:39-1, all public secondary school students in grades 9 through 12 residing more than two-and-a-half miles from their school are entitled to transportation. This entitlement extends to students classified with special needs who either meet these distance requirements or for whom transportation is stipulated in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Legal Obligation for County Vocational/Career & Technical Education High Schools

Local Boards of Education are legally obligated to provide transportation to County Vocational/Career & Technical Education high schools (see N.J. Admin. Code ยง 6A:19-2.3). In the event of transportation-related concerns, please contact your local Board of Education to express your issue.

Campus Services Office

The PCTVS Campus Services Office takes pride in efficiently coordinating and managing the district's student transportation efforts from A.M. student pick-up to 2:56 P.M. student dismissal.

We understand the importance of safe and reliable transportation for our students. We collaborate with sending districts' transportation offices and contracted student transportation service providers to maintain the highest standards for student safety and transportation efficiency. Student well-being and security are our top priorities.

Bus Routes and Schedules

Student Transportation Guidelines:

Familiarize yourself with our transportation guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable commuting experience for all PCTVS students.

  1. Bus Safety
    • Arrive at the bus stop at least ten minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
    • Wait in an orderly fashion, away from the edge of the road, and avoid horseplay.
  2. Boarding and Exiting
    • Enter and exit the bus in a single-file line, using the handrail.
    • Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching or departing.
  3. Seating Arrangements
    • Where applicable, follow assigned seating arrangements.
    • Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
  4. Conduct on the Bus
    • Keep noise levels to a minimum to ensure a safe and focused environment.
    • Refrain from engaging in disruptive behavior, including shouting, pushing, or throwing objects.
  5. Respect for the Driver
    • Follow the instructions of the bus driver and bus aide promptly and respectfully.
    • Address drivers and aides with courtesy and refrain from distracting drivers while driving.
  6. Emergency Procedures
    • Familiarize yourself with emergency exit locations and procedures. You will receive training during the school year.
    • Remain calm and follow the driver's instructions in case of an emergency.
  7. Personal Belongings
    • Keep personal belongings secure and avoid obstructing the aisle.
    • Do not bring oversized items or objects that may pose a safety hazard.
  8. Prohibited Items
    • Refrain from bringing items such as weapons, hazardous materials, or anything that may endanger others.
  9. Personal Safety
    • Stay seated while the bus is in motion, and keep all body parts inside the bus.
    • Do not extend objects, including electronic devices like phones or cameras, out of windows.
  10. Crossing the Street
    • When disembarking the bus, wait for the driver's signal before crossing the street.
    • Cross in front of the bus, maintaining eye contact with the driver.
  11. Communication
    • Report any issues or concerns to the bus driver or school authorities promptly.
    • Inform the bus driver if there is a need to disembark at a different stop.
  12. Substance-Free Environment
    • Do not bring or consume controlled substances, including vape devices and alcohol, on the school bus.

Following the PCTVS student code of conduct as well as the transportation guidelines listed above will greatly contribute to a safe and enjoyable transportation experience for all PCTVS students. Your cooperation is vital to maintaining a secure and efficient transportation system.
