Wayne, NJ – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Alumni Disnalda Vargas and Ramon Duran returned to Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) to impart knowledge to Academy of Finance students. An informative exchange highlighted the educational paths of Vargas and Duran, who coached current PCTI students on the best choices to make after graduation.
Vargas graduated from Montclair State University with an Accounting degree and a minor in Business Management. She has since received her CPA and spearheaded the creation of MSU’s Youth Advisory Board, which connects college students to financial firms and provides guidance. Vargas currently serves as the Audit Senior of the organization.
Duran graduated from William Patterson University with a degree in Marketing and Sales. After working for a year at Wells Fargo, he attended Rutgers University and received his MBA in Accounting. He is also a CPA.
Both Vargas and Duran graduated from PCTI in 2005 and serve as Audit Managers for Deloitte. When imparting valuable advice to finance students, they touched upon an important truth. “A lot of people are concerned with attending big name universities,” Vargas said. “It’s more about the degree and the experience you have in college.”
“It’s what you make of it,” Duran added. He further explained that his education in sales at WPUNJ has been monumental in shaping his career.
It all comes back to Bulldog Country. The alumni shared that they’re still close with many PCTI graduates and wanted to facilitate events that help guide members of future generations. Their thankfulness for a rich high school education influenced the former students’ decision to return for the informational session.
“In high school, I was involved in PCTI’s Co-op initiative with the bank on campus and as a result, got to interact with people on a professional level. It was a good youth experience that allowed me to continue on the path of banking,” Vargas explained. “The exposure gave me the opportunity to practice professionalism at a young age.”
Both Disnalda Vargas and Ramon Duran cited that they will continue participating in events with the career and technical high school. “We want to bridge that gap between being a high school graduate, attending college, and building a career. We want to show students that by taking advantage of all PCTI has to offer, the possibilities are limitless,” Duran said.
