October Students of the Month

Sereniti Catoe

Sereniti Catoe has been passionate about singing since the age of two and knew from an early age that it would become a major part of her life. It was her passion for singing that led her to attend PCTI’s School of Performing Arts – Vocal program, choosing the field because of her fascination with music and music theory and love for singing!

At PCTI, Sereniti is a member of choir which she has been part of since her freshman year. She is also a member of End Racism And Sexism Everywhere club, Future Educators of America, American Sign Language Club, and is a member of National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, and Tri-M Honor Society.

After school Sereniti spends her spare time recording music and developing melodies and lyrics. When music isn’t involved, she is a fourth-grade tutor of English and Social Studies. She also loves spending time with her family especially her little brother who she considers to be her best friend.

Upon graduation Sereniti plans to attend Montclair State University and double major in psychology and music, she eventually wants to receive a masters degree in both fields. In her future she aspires to become either a teacher or psychologist and knows that she wants to work with children. “I genuinely want to help children. My goal is to be either a teacher or a psychologist because I want to go into a career that will help me really impact children’s lives. As long as, I get to work with children and be in an environment where I am around them and making impact, that’s what’s important to me.”

Upon receiving her student of the month designation Sereniti says, “It’s one of the biggest honors I’ve received in my four years of high school. Since I became a freshman here, I’ve been working to maintain a high GPA, and stay involved with the extra curriculars here. After seeing the ‘Congratulations, you’re student of the month’ email it was like a breath of fresh air for me because I was so excited.” Her remarkable GPA of 4.046 shows her hard work really paid off!

Abigail Den Bleyker

Abigail Den Bleyker’s exceptional problem-solving skills come to light when she’s working in Computer Science, it’s the reason that she chose it as her path at the STEM Academy. “I consider problem solving my strength. I love being able to work toward an answer especially when it involves conceptual thinking.” Abigail knew that problem solving and the skills she learned through Computer Science would be applicable to any field even if she decided to study outside of STEM in her future.

In school, Abigail is secretary of the History Club and is a member of the Environmental Club and Book Club. She is also a member of Rho Kappa Honor Society and the National Honor Society. Beyond her school activities Abigail volunteers in a number of church programs.

Speaking of her student of the month designation, “I felt proud. I know that whoever decides must go over every requirement, there’s so many qualified people here that I felt very special to be acknowledged.” With an incredible GPA of 4.12, Abigail is more than qualified to receive this designation!

Abigail had some advice for this year’s freshman, “I think it’s important to recognize this is a transition period, it’s going to be a big change in your life and may be a bit hard at first. Try to stay active in school, all the teachers are super supportive and if you have any issues just reach out there so many people here to help.”

Congratulations Abigail! Your diligence, passion, and hard work will ensure much future success!

Joshua Sparkes

Joshua Sparkes’ interest on financial practicality and the importance of our economic market is what led him to choose PCTI’s Academy of Finance, “I chose my career path because I wanted to explore the wonders of economic value, going beyond just spending money but also seeing where it comes from, its process, and how it affects society.”

With an impressive GPA of 3.92 his interests go beyond his academics. He is a prominent member of numerous clubs and activities; RHO Kappa Honor Society, National Honor Society and Gifted and Talented. Joshua is also Captain of Consumer Bowl, President of the History Club, a member of Student Council Interact, Astronomy Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Christian Student Association. Joshua excels as the Captain of the Boys Track and Field and is also on the Boys Cross Country team.

Joshua has already been admitted early acceptance and will attend West Point Military Academy. There he plans to major in business management and legal studies as well as continuing athletics on the Track and Field team. In his future, Joshua hopes to make it to the Olympics and plans on starting his own company. Eventually he plans on pursuing politics and even running for US president!

When asked about his student of the month designation Joshua says, "It feels great but at the same time it reminds me I have a long way to go and there's more for me to do.”

Joshua has advice for his fellow classmates as he reminds them, "it's important to find balance in high school, be studious and give it your all. Small steppingstones toward success are important, it's not about where you start, it's about how far you get from where you started."
