Scott Boorman is a young man from Wayne whose unmatched intellect has ensured a successful high school career as part of PCTI’s School of Engineering Technology. A passion for science, technology, as well as figuring out how things work, has led Scott to discover a prospective future career in Aerospace Engineering. “I find the problem solving process gratifying. Additionally, working in an industry that deals with space travel and rockets would be interesting,” he says.

He certainly has the drive to achieve his dreams. Scott ranks in the top six percent of his class with a cumulative GPA of 4.11. Such a stellar academic performance is largely due to Scott’s interest in challenging himself by taking numerous honors and AP courses. His scholastic prowess has been recognized with the AP Scholar with Honor Award. This distinction is reserved for those who receive an average of 3.25 on all AP Exams with scores 3 or higher on four or more on their exams. Scott has the potential to graduate from PCTI with at least twenty-seven college credits!

This intelligent Bulldog is much more than his academics. He’s on the Boys Bowling team and as a member of the Engineering Club, has competed and placed in multiple PCCC robotics competitions. As a junior, Scott was selected to participate in New Jersey Boys State. He even volunteered his time this past summer to mentor 7th and 8th grade students of PCTI’s Summer STEM Academy. The activity combined his passion for Engineering with kindling the same interest in community youths.

When it comes to his future studies, Scott has everything figured out. He was accepted to all the universities on his list, including New York University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Scott chose to attend the latter when he was accepted into the school’s Albert Dorman Honors College - a prestigious program that earned him a full academic scholarship for his postsecondary education. He seeks to attain a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and may one day pursue a Master’s degree. Scott’s greatest desire is to enter the Aerospace Engineering field and to further explore the prospects of interspace travel. “I look forward to designing plans from start to finish,” he adds.

One thing’s for certain, Scott’s scientific curiosity is sure to pave the way to new worlds. Congratulations to this inventive Bulldog. You’re bound to find infinite success!

Karly Inserra is a passionate young woman pursuing an education in PCTI’s Academy of Medical Arts program. Hailing from Hawthorne, Karly says that she’s always wanted to be involved in the medical field. “It’s something I’ve always known and PCTI provided the perfect opportunity for me to get involved and discover what I enjoy.”

For Karly, that means working with the elderly. During her junior year, she volunteered at Regency Gardens as part of the Academy of Medical Arts curriculum. This experience led Karly to discover her future career - becoming a Registered Nurse.

“It combines personally connecting with others and helping them,” she adds.

Karly is an outstanding student who ranks in the top two percent of her class. During her first year, she was selected for the Freshmen Foundation for Success, - which celebrates the top ten students with the best GPAs in the Class of 2017. She’s achieved Principal’s Honor Roll throughout her entire high school career and currently boasts a GPA of 4.37! Karly has taken numerous AP and honors courses and has the potential to graduate with thirty-three college credits. She’s also a CNA, is Basic Life Support certified, and is working towards her EMT certification.

Amidst a packed academic schedule, Karly has participated in HOSA and Gifted and Talented. She’s an avid athlete and is known for playing Soccer and Lacrosse - both at the varsity level. She currently serves as captain of the Girls Lacrosse team. Still, Karly manages to hold a part-time job at Shop Rite where she works an average of sixteen hours a week.

She credits much of her impeccable time management skills to her PCTI education. “There are so many opportunities. If you want to take advantage of them all, then you have to learn how to prioritize everything.”

After graduation, Karly will attend William Paterson University to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, eventually working towards her RN licensure. She anticipates gaining work experience and will later go back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner.

When asked what the best thing about PCTI is, Karly says, “I love the idea of having different programs to choose from. There’s a sense of belonging, and I’ve made a lot of good friends who’ve helped me improve.”
