May Student of the Month 2014

Julisa Smith

Julisa Smith is an astute young woman from Paterson who prides herself on staying motivated. This student of the School of Business Careers has accomplished great academic feats, both in her area of study as well as in other classes.Julisa’s determination is top notch and has earned her a 3.7 GPA with a school rank of being in the top ten percent of the Class of 2014.

She has also achieved honors throughout most of her time at Passaic County Technical Institute.

When asked about what drives her, Julisa said, “I’m a perfectionist. I like getting things done on time and done well.” It shows. Julisa has earned twenty college credits from taking courses in Chemistry Honors, Accounting, and Biology.

Throughout her high school career, Julisa has participated in ERASE, GSA, and SLICE. She is currently a member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and noted her reason for joining was to compete and volunteer. “I’ve always enjoyed helping others, especially through fundraising,” she said.

Julisa has actively sought opportunities to realize her dream of becoming an accountant. She is involved in the School-To-Careers program as a Co-Op for Valley National Bank where she works as a Teller. This position has taught Julisa a great deal about money management and working in conjunction with others. She plans on staying with the company until she goes off to college.

One of Julisa’s greatest accomplishments that demonstrates both her determination and academic savvy was being accepted into all eight colleges to which she applied! This includes Western New England University, Pace University, Rider University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Montclair State University, William Paterson University, and Seton Hall University.

Her home for the next four years will be Pace in New York City. Julisa looks forward to receiving her Bachelors in General Accounting, and will then work towards a Masters degree. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a career in International Business Accounting and to travel the world.

When asked about her most valuable experiences at PCTI, Julisa had this to say, “I’m thankful to my instructors for their openness and honesty in guiding me toward making informed career decisions. All these opportunities shaped who I am today.”
